Celebrating Leo Troik

Leo Troik

Leo's Y story begins in the summer of 2016, when he joined the Dallas Mayor's Intern Fellows Program. Though Leo was familiar with the YMCA, it wasn't until he applied for the internship that he learned just how well the Y's values matched his own. As soon as the internship offer fell into his hands, he knew it was the place for him.

During his internship, Leo introduced the White Rock Y to a brand-new opportunity: a chess club. Leo worked tirelessly to develop the curriculum, overcoming many hurdles to eventually produce a model that can be replicated at YMCA locations around the globe.

Leo was also the 2017 recipient of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas's King Scholarship. Leo was one of twenty Dallas-area high school seniors to receive an academic scholarship, but was the only one to receive the King Scholarship, the highest honor possible.

As Leo now heads off to college, he is grateful for his YMCA journey. During his time, he gained skills and learned lessons that will be valuable during his next stage of life. Additionally, Leo leaves his mark on the White Rock Y through the introduction of the chess club, which will no doubt be stimulating and challenging youth for many years to come.
