Create Healthy Eating Habits Through A Salsa, Sabor Y Salud Class

When it comes to keeping your family healthy and fit, maintaining healthy eating habits should be the cornerstone of your overall health plan. Simply making the choice to eat healthier and avoid dangerous processed food can do a lot for your family's health, including prevent dangerous diseases such as diabetes and keep your children away from the dangerous health effects that come hand-in-hand with child obesity.
This month more than ever, during March's National Nutrition Month, we want to help encourage your entire family to eat healthy and develop a better relationship with the foods that you are consuming. By doing so, you will not only instill lifelong healthy habits into your children's lives, but you will also become a healthier and happier you!
Here are a few ways in which the YMCA Dallas is getting together with local families and individuals in the Dallas area to help develop proper nutrition habits that improve their lifestyle, during both National Nutrition Month and all year long!
Salsa, Sabor y Salud
We feature a number of health, well-being and fitness classes for the entire family here at the YMCA Dallas, but one of our most popular is the Salsa, Sabor y Salud nutrition class. In this class, participants will improve their overall awareness of healthy eating habits aimed at Latino families with children 12 and under, which will in turn lead to better nutrition and increased physical activity in the home.
One of the reasons why this class is such a great option for families is because it builds on the rich traditions and values that are found in Hispanic and Latino cultures, helping families to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles with foods and cooking styles that they have already been introduced to. Throughout the eight weekly group sessions in Salsa, Sabor y Salud, families will learn about making healthier food choices, with each week featuring a different theme incorporating traditional Hispanic and Latino culture.
This great health and nutrition program is encourages participation from the entire family, and is offered in partnership with the National Latino Children's Institute (NLCI) and Kraft Foods. Plus, the entire class was designed by Latinos for Latinos, and is the first class of its kind to encourage healthy lifestyles among Latino families. YMCA Nutrition and Fitness Classes
In addition to our Salso, Sabor y Salud class which focuses primarily on nutrition and healthy eating habits, we also have several other classes at the YMCA Dallas which deal with nutrition, family fitness and overall well-being. - Diabetes Prevention: Helping those at high risk adopt and maintain healthy living lifestyles and reduce their chances of developing type 2 diabetes.
- Get Up and Go Class: This program was designed to teach kids ages 6-11 and their families about healthy habits to reduce the risk of developing serious chronic illnesses such as diabetes or heart disease.
