Camp on the Lake

Parents Thoughts

"We are first time campers. We decided to sign up because of a friend. My daughter loved it. I wish I would have signed up for more weeks. She spent the whole day outside and came home every evening tired, happy, hungry and ready for the next day. So happy to find a camp that lets my little be little- no electronics and no screen time."

Frequently Asked Questions

Your kids will be doing activities like swimming, sailing, kayaking/canoeing, boating/tubing, archery, and more! We know campers gain a sense of security and community by remaining with their "new" friends and camp counselor throughout the week. That is why we engage children in activities that encourage working together so that they feel comfortable and free to experience all the possibilities camp has to offer.

Campers are placed into groups based on their age and gender with no more than 10 campers per group. They are grouped this way due to the 9-13 year olds' activities being slightly different for the older campers. Kids aged 6-8 will be able to canoe with a counselor and ride on the pontoon boat while 9-13 year old campers will be able to kayak on their own and tube behind the speed boat.

If your camper has a friend attending the same week and they are within the same age group, you can send us an email by the Wednesday the week before they attend camp and we will do our best to place them in the same group.

Campers will spend most of their time outdoors. It is recommended that your child wear clothes they don't mind getting muddy, swimsuit, and a hat. They will also need swim shoes to wear in the lake. Campers will also need the following items:

  • A Lunch*
  • A refillable water bottle with their name on it
  • Swimsuit, towel, water shoes, hat
  • Sunscreen (the spray kind is the best!)
  • A backpack to help them keep their items together

* Required to have each day

Items to leave at home:

  • Phones, tablets, any electronics
  • Money
  • Toys not suitable for camp

Buses depart camp and return to their bus stops around 5:00 - 5:30 pm. If you would like to pick your camper up before this, you will need to email us beforehand and pick them up no later than 3:30 pm at the building. After 3:30 pm, campers will be sent to their buses to be picked up at their pickup/drop off location.

If you need to cancel a week of camp, we require two weeks notice. Any cancellations after that period will not be refunded. Deposits for camp are non-refundable and non-transferrable. To cancel your registration for camp, you will need to email camponthelakeinfo@ymcadallas.org.

Our preferred method of communication is email, we are frequently checking and responding to it throughout the camp day. For most communication, please email camponthelakeinfo@ymcadallas.org. Additionally, we have our camp phone we use for emergency communication, the phone number is 972-489-5769.
