Best Summer Ever - Camp Corral

As new campers are heading to camp, we asked some of our counselors and campers what their favorite traditions and activities are at C.G.S! Their answers make us want to pack our bags and head to camp!

"My favorite camp tradition is more of a feeling than something you can see. When you come here you are just loved and appreciate for who you are. I think we are very intentional in creating an environment that makes your feel vulnerable so that we can grow together."- Nevin McCoy, Summer Camp Director

"My favorite tradition is Green Trees and Taps. It’s the end of the night and everyone stands in a huge circle and we sing Green Trees and Taps after the flag has been taken down. I have been doing this since I was 8, and you get to stand there at the end of the day with one huge family and see each other and look across from each other. It's the calm at the end of the day before the craziness begins again. It's the realization that C.G.S. is a huge family." - Danielle Kasper, Group and Family Director

"My favorite things about camp is getting to know a lot of people and getting to know some awesome counselors. There are always new people coming every year and getting to do new activities that you don’t really get to do at home. This is a place where you can be yourself and have fun and be out in the sun for others and get a really nice tan." - Hannah Wagnun, Camp Corral Camper

"The reason that Camp Corral is so awesome is because the people here are so nice, and the food is really good. But mainly it’s the people, they listen to you and don't go off blabbering about themselves. They are just good people. My personal favorite thing to do at camp is theater and I like how we do a talent show and work with the theater groups. This is my favorite part about summer because there are so many activities and whatever you like to do outside, you can probably do it here at camp." - Kelso Maller, Camp Corral Camper

"My favorite tradition is the mash potato contest. It is definitely not proper table manners, but it is so fun and is the essence of camp! I also like hiking J.P. I remember the first time hiking J.P. and making it to the top and looking down thinking, wow everything I love is right here!"- Meredith Herbst, Teen Girls Unit Leader and C.I.T. Director

"I think my favorite tradition is GaGa ball. I don't how long we have been playing the game, but that pit has been there for as long as I can remember. I think there are pictures of it from the 1950s, and it is the stable of camp and will always be there." - Preston Tackett, Camp Counselor
