SPRUCE UP YOUR SUMMER FITNESS

When the heats starts turning up outside, it can make it a challenge to fit in your midday run, so the summer can be a good time to change up your fitness routine. Heading indoors and trying a new group fitness class is always a good way to challenge yourself, but on days you can’t make it to the gym, you may need some new ideas. Here are a couple of tips to help you beat the heat and get a good workout in!

  • If you are stuck indoors all day at work, taking several walk breaks can help not only get you more physically active, but stimulate your mind. Head to the stairs to really increase your heart rate. Spending just 5 minutes climbing stairs can offer a full body workout and most of us have access to stairs every day!
  • Investing in an inexpensive resistance band is another way to get some fitness in at your desk. While reading or talking or the speakerphone, you can be using your band for bicep curls, overhead triceps press, or squats. Almost anything you do with a dumbbell can be modified to use with a resistance band, and you never have to leave your desk!
  • With kids at home this summer, there’s no reason you should miss out on all the fun! Swimming, running through sprinklers and a game of tag are all great ways to get fit with your kids, and they will love spending time playing with you. Just make sure everyone has plenty of sunscreen and water.

Have fun creating memories this summer in a fun and healthy way!
