DALLAS, TEXAS (April 19, 2023)The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas received nationwide recognition from NAYDO (North American YMCA Development Organization), bringing home the Eagle Award for Excellence in Fundraising at the recent NAYDO Conference in Houston.

Last year, the Dallas Y raised over $18 million to support local community efforts, which includes the Annual Campaign, garnering more than $4.2 million to help families become part of the Y, regardless of their ability to pay. In addition, the Dallas Y continues its commitment to supporting southern Dallas, currently in a fundraising campaign to build a new Park South Family YMCA facility and renovate the Moorland Family YMCA at Oak Cliff. Both projects total more than $26 million, for which the Y still needs support.

Since 2018, under the leadership of President and CEO Curt Hazelbaker, the Dallas Y has been a part of leading a national effort called YMCA Day of Giving; an effort Hazelbaker started during his tenure as CEO of the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina. Collectively, YMCAs across the country have raised more than $678K from 4,100 donors, 987 new donors, 1,627 member gifts, and 1,146 online gifts, which exceeded $176K in donations. In 2023, the Dallas Y raised over $140K during its Day of Giving.

“Relationship building is woven into the culture of the Dallas Y. All the fundraising elements propel the organization into a financially secure position, allowing us to increase the number of people we serve and deepen the impact we make, to truly fulfill our mission.”  said Curt Hazelbaker, President and CEO of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas. “This work is only possible through the kind hearts of donors and volunteers who generously give their time and financial support to the YMCA. We’re eternally grateful to have supporters who believe in the Y’s ability to transform communities and are as committed to the improvement in the lives of North Texans as we are. “

Last year, the Dallas Y announced it would match $2.5 million in funds to establish new donor-designated funds for its endowment. This resulted in more than 60 newly named funds and increased the amount of the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas Foundation by $5 million. Through its foundation, a separate entity, the Y ensures its mission, operations, and programs, meet the needs of North Texas youth and future generations.

North American YMCA Development Organization (NAYDO) exists to strengthen the philanthropic efforts of YMCAs throughout the nation, as well as Canada. To qualify for NAYDO’s Eagle Award, the Dallas Y had to demonstrate evidence of yearly growth in its annual campaign with member involvement as a primary component, successful history of capital campaigns that address critical needs within the community and share its fundraising excellence and influence with other YMCAs, as well as meet several additional standards of criteria.
