Small Steps, Big Impact: Take care of your Heart Health this February
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for men and women in the U.S., and nearly 1 in 2 adults has high blood pressure - often without knowing it. According to the American Heart Association, blood pressure control has gotten worse since the pandemic, making now the perfect time to check in on your heart health.
The good news? You don’t have to make big changes overnight to make a big difference. Simple actions like getting your blood pressure checked, cutting back on sodium, eating more fruits and veggies, and moving your body daily can all help lower your risk of heart disease. At the Y, we’re making heart health easier - and more accessible - than ever with a program designed to support every step of your journey:
Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program: If high blood pressure runs in your family or you’ve been told yours is on the rise, our Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program can help. Participants learn how to track their numbers, receive personal coaching and nutrition tips, and build habits that can lead to lasting improvements. Research shows that monitoring your blood pressure just twice a month can lead to healthier numbers when combined with smart lifestyle changes. Since 2018, 789 people have taken part - could you be next?
