Love Grows at The Turkey Trot

Luke and Maggie at the 2018 Turkey Trot

It's no secret that the Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot is a family tradition that spans generations of Dallasites. We've seen marriage proposals almost every year, a couple of our long-time volunteers met at The Trot and later married, and one time there was even a wedding at the Start Line - while the couple and the officiate were getting ready to run! Those are stories for another time, though. Right now, we'll focus on Luke and Maggie, as told by Luke's mother, Vicki:

I had to email you about my son and his fiancé getting engaged in large part due to our 2 families running the Turkey Trot together for the last 20 years!

I will be brief, but I wanted to share their story.

Twenty two years ago I met a woman while dropping our children off at preschool. She saw I was wearing running clothes and asked if I ran. I told her I did so we began running together once a week.

After 2 years we decided to run the Dallas Turkey Trot and did the “forced family fun” of signing both families up for the 5K. I signed my husband up and our 4 kids and she signed her husband and 2 daughters up.

Her 2 girls have always loved to come over before the race all excited and bubbly, my 2 girls were amicable but not near as enthusiastic. My 2 boys had to be woken up and basically would walk out, hair not brushed, who knew if teeth were brushed and would just show up!!

Fast forward to 2019, one of my son's and the bubbly daughter just got engaged!! We have run the Turkey Trot with them for 20 years only missing once because we were out of town.

We have all signed up again this year with all significant others! That is 10 people in my family alone!!

Thank you Dallas Turkey Trot for all the years of memories and bringing these 2 people together!!

We will have a wedding {in} April 2020 for Luke and Maggie!!!

See you on Nov.28, 2019!

Sincerely,
Vicki Moran

It is an honor to be entrusted with producing an event that makes an impact in our community through the YMCA After School and Preschool Programs. The fact that so many love stories begin and/or continue at The Trot makes it much more special.

Thank you to Vicki, Luke, and Maggie for sharing your Trot story. We look forward to many more years with the Morans and McClews at The Trot!  ~Courtney
