Wilma Clay's journey with cancer has been a challenging one, but with the support of her family, friends, and medical personnel, she has been able to overcome many obstacles. One of the most important stops along the way has been the LIVESTRONG program at the Cross Timbers Family YMCA, which provided her with a 12-week YMCA membership and specific classes just for LIVESTRONG participants.

At first, Wilma had trouble sticking to her exercise routine, but with encouragement from her oncologist, husband, and sister, she made a commitment to come twice a week and work on building strength, gaining flexibility, and increasing her endurance. This dedication paid off, and within two months, Wilma was able to walk a 5K with several other members of the LIVESTRONG program. By May of that same year, she and her husband were walking 3K's on a regular basis.

The YMCA continues to play an important role in her life. Today, Wilma is a member and employee at the Y and she believes she is in a safe and welcoming place that includes classes and instructors who will teach to your level. She testifies that the Live Strong program is a fantastic starting point for cancer survivors who want to improve their health and fitness.

Throughout her journey, Wilma has learned the importance of the range of motion and the value of being part of a supportive community. She understands that Live Strong pushes you more than you might think is possible and that the instructors in group X classes will take you where you are and make you stronger. Most importantly, Wilma knows that the Y is a place where she can be herself and where everyone truly knows each other.

In 2021, Wilma was rediagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer in bones. However, she remains optimistic and continues to be a strong advocate for the Live Strong program and the Y.

In conclusion, Wilma's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of community. She has faced many challenges, but with the support of her loved ones and the resources provided by the Y, she has been able to overcome them. Her experience highlights the benefits of the Live Strong program and serves as an inspiration to others who may be facing similar challenges.
