2026 Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot: Run, Walk or Trot

What is the Turkey Trot?

The Turkey Trot, also known as my favorite day of the year, is held annually at Dallas City Hall. The first Trot was held in 1967 and has grown into one of the largest Thanksgiving Day runs in the country. Thousands of folks, runners, walkers, tutu-wearers, and even pups, flock downtown for a festive fitness celebration.

It’s not just about the run: It’s about the community, the costumes, the tradition, and that heart-warming feeling of giving back while getting your steps in before eating the stuffing.

What's New This Year

We're so excited to be able to add additional experiences to the Trot to make it even more memorable for you and your family:

• Expanded petting zoo

• TWO hotelier options: The Omni and Aloft

• Soccer field - The soccer field is a new addition this year, celebrating our city’s love for the game. While there will be no organized matches, the AstroTurf space provides plenty of opportunities for children and soccer fans alike to practice their skills and enjoy the fun.

Choose Your Distance: 5K or 8-Mile Course

You’ve got options:

• 5K Run/Walk: Perfect for families, beginners, and folks who like to trot and take it all in. Costumes encouraged!

• 8-Mile Course: For those of you who want to earn that extra slice of pie.

Both routes start and finish near Dallas City Hall, and you better believe I’ll be there cheering, dancing, and flapping my wings at the start line. 

A Thanksgiving Event for the Whole Family in Dallas

This isn’t just a race; it’s a whole family friendly experience, from toddlers to your four-legged friends, everyone’s welcome at the Trot. Many families dress in themed costumes, push strollers, or walk hand-in-hand through the streets of downtown.

How to Register & What You Get

Every participant gets:

• A commemorative long-sleeve race T-shirt

• A finisher’s medal (while supplies last)

Packet pickup will be available the week before the race at select YMCA branches and other locations across North Texas.
