Sun, Smiles, and Splashing: A Day at Camp on the Lake

Located right by the vibrant waters of Lake Lewisville, just a short drive from the buzz of Dallas, there’s a summer camp that doesn’t require packed suitcases, bunk beds, or tearful goodbyes. It’s called Camp on the Lake, and after spending just one sunny day there, I completely understand why kids (and parents) keep coming back for more.
Camp on the Lake is a premier waterfront day camp for kids ages 6–13, packed with all the classic summer camp fun. Think archery, tubing, sailing, BBs, field games, arts and crafts, and more. It runs five days a week, and let me tell you, they don’t waste a single moment.
When I arrived, the energy was contagious. Counselors were buzzing with enthusiasm, kids were laughing, and the lake glistened like a scene out of a childhood summer memory. I had the opportunity to tag along with a group of incoming 4th-grade girls, and right away we hopped on a boat and headed for the water to let the group tube across the lake.
After the tubing fun, the group headed to their next station: lake swimming. Lifeguards kept a watchful eye as campers splashed, floated, and giggled in the water. Next stop? A high-energy round of Gaga Ball, where I quickly realized these kids don’t just play for fun, they play to win. Honestly, I’m still not sure who the reigning champion was, but the cheering told me everyone walked away feeling like one.
The camp even offers a welcome escape from the Texas heat with indoor arts and crafts, giving kids a chance to cool down and get creative. Whether it’s building a friendship bracelet or designing a new masterpiece with finger paint, there’s something here for every kind of camper.
What really struck me, though, wasn’t just the activities, it was the atmosphere. Camp on the Lake isn’t just about having fun, it’s about connection, confidence, and community.
As Camp Counselor Katherine put it perfectly:
“My favorite part of being a camp counselor is getting a new group of kids every week and getting to interact with them. I feel like some kids don't find activities they fit into, but then come to camp and love everything. Seeing their face just light up when they realize they can do something is really cool.”
And it is REALLY cool! During my visit, I saw kids trying new things, encouraging each other, and building genuine relationships with their peers and counselors.
As I watched these kids laugh, play, and make memories under the sun, I couldn’t help but ask myself, “Why didn’t I get to go to something like this growing up?” Camp on the Lake is that perfect blend of outdoor adventure and heartfelt bonding that every kid deserves. So, if you’re looking for a way to get your child off the couch and into a summer filled with fun, friendship, and fresh air, Camp on the Lake might just be the perfect splash!
