Invest America

Invest America

Invest America is a federally backed program that helps children start building long-term savings and wealth. Eligible children receive an investment account that can grow over time through investments and additional contributions from family members, employers, charities, and other supporters.

What Parents Need to Know

Who can have an account? Children under age 18 with a valid Social Security number may be eligible.
Who owns the account? The account is in the child’s name, with an authorized adult helping manage it until the child reaches adulthood.
What is it for? The account is intended for long-term savings and investing, not short-term spending.
When can my child access the money? Generally, funds remain invested until the child reaches adulthood. Beginning at age 18, the account holder can use funds for major life goals such as education, job training, homeownership, starting a business, or continuing to invest.

Starter Contributions

$1,000 federal pilot contribution: Children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, may qualify if they meet program requirements, including U.S. citizenship and a valid Social Security number.
$250 Michael & Susan Dell charitable contribution: A separate Dell-funded pledge may provide $250 for eligible children age 10 and under who live in ZIP codes where the median household income is $150,000 or less and who are not receiving the federal $1,000 newborn pilot contribution.
Family and community contributions: Parents, grandparents, relatives, friends, employers, charities, and community groups may be able to contribute, subject to annual limits.

How to Sign Up

  • Gather your child’s Social Security number, date of birth, and address.
  • Sign in to or create your IRS account using ID.me.
  • Complete IRS Form 4547, Trump Account Election, to open the account and request the federal pilot contribution if your child qualifies.
  • Watch for official activation instructions from Treasury or the official Trump Accounts app.
  • Beginning July 4, 2026, eligible accounts are expected to begin accepting contributions, subject to program rules.

How is the Money Invested and Used

  • The account is expected to be invested in diversified, low-cost funds that track broad U.S. stock market indexes.
  • The money is intended to stay invested until the child reaches adulthood.
  • At age 18, the account generally begins to follow traditional IRA rules.
  • Funds may help support future goals such as education, job training, first-time homeownership, starting a business, or continued investing.
  • Investment returns are not guaranteed, and account value can go up or down
