Our Basketball Skills Training Program is a comprehensive, player-development system designed to elevate athletes at every level — from beginners building fundamentals to advanced players preparing for elite competition.
Here at the McKinney Family YMCA, our certified basketball trainers provide coaching for all ages and skill levels. We offer training for fundamentals such as footwork, ball control, and body positioning, to the more intricate details of the game such as passing precision, finding your shooting spots, and developing the mindset of a competitive athlete. Every elite basketball player has the knowledge, drive, and the right habits that all show when they help their team to victory, and our skills training program ensures the development of all of those elements.
note: Basketball Skills Training is open to ANYONE, not just YMCA members. However, YMCA members will receive discounted rates on training packages**
From Basics to Breakthroughs, the McKinney YMCA offers a basketball training program tailored to YOU.
Our Training Assessment is a comprehensive three-session evaluation designed to identify an athlete’s strengths, limitations, and growth areas.
One-on-One Training sessions provide individualized instruction tailored to the athlete’s specific needs and position. Every drill, rep, and correction is intentional. This format allows for maximum repetition, immediate feedback, and accelerated skill refinement.
Partner Training combines individualized instruction with competitive elements. Training alongside 1–2 other athletes introduces live reads, situational drills, and competitive reps while still maintaining a high level of coaching attention.
Small Group Training is designed to simulate realistic game conditions while maintaining structured skill development. Athletes learn how to apply their individual skills within a team framework — reading defenses, communicating effectively, and making quick, intelligent decisions.
Our Team Skills Training session is built to enhance collective performance. We focus on offensive spacing, defensive rotations, transition execution, communication, and situational awareness.
This session is dedicated exclusively to shooting development. Athletes work on shooting form, balance, footwork alignment, release consistency, and shot preparation.
