Why the Joyce Family Supports the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall
For Ryan and Meredith Joyce, the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall has never been just a place to work out.
It's where their three children discovered a love for sports, where friendships were formed and where their family became part of the Rockwall community.
"When you're coming regularly, you build a little community," Meredith said. "Even if those people aren't your closest friends outside the Y, you get to know them."
For years, the YMCA has been woven into their family's story. Today, they're helping ensure it remains part of countless others.
Finding Community at the Y
After moving to Rockwall, the YMCA quickly became part of the Joyce family's routine. Over the years, all three of their children participated in youth sports, while Meredith found community through group exercise classes, and Ryan spent years coaching YMCA soccer.
The experiences they shared at the Y made a lasting impression.
"It's really a starting point," Ryan said. "Kids learn what they're interested in and what they're not. Every child is different, and the YMCA offers so many opportunities for them to discover what they enjoy."
Even during busy seasons when work and family life left little time to visit the branch, the Joyces continued their membership because they believed in what the YMCA represents.
"We've always kept it because we feel like it's an important part of our community," Meredith said.

Investing in the Future
That belief is what inspired the family to support the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall's capital expansion.
"We've been very blessed, and we feel very strongly about supporting our community," Ryan said. "We're fortunate that we're able to give back."
As YMCA supporters and members, the Joyces have experienced firsthand how the branch has grown alongside Rockwall. They're especially excited about improvements like expanded parking, a renovated natatorium and a larger group exercise studio that will better serve members today while preparing for the future.
"It's definitely needed," Meredith said of the expanded fitness spaces. "The Y has grown with our community."
A Growing Community
Like many families, the Joyces chose Rockwall because of its strong schools and welcoming atmosphere. They believe the YMCA plays an important role in preserving that sense of community as the city continues to grow.
"It's a very family-friendly community," Ryan said. "People move here because they want to know their neighbors and be part of something."
For the Joyces, the YMCA is one of the places where those connections happen, whether its children discovering a new sport, parents building friendships or neighbors coming together to support one another.

A Place for Every Stage of Life
One of Meredith's favorite things about the YMCA isn't just watching children learn and grow, it's seeing people of every generation enjoy the space together.
As the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall begins its next chapter, the Joyces hope their investment helps ensure future generations of families will experience the same sense of belonging they've found over the years.
"It's such an important part of the community," Ryan said. "If you're able to support it, you should."
As construction begins on the J.E.R. Chilton YMCA at Rockwall's transformational expansion, families like the Joyces are helping create a stronger future for the community they call home. Their story is a reminder that investing in the YMCA is ultimately an investment in the people who walk through its doors every day.
