Free Swim Open House
Summer is right around the corner, which means more time at the pool, lake, and backyard gatherings. It’s the season kids look forward to, but it’s also when water safety matters most.
Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children ages 1–4 in the United States, including here in Texas. For kids ages 5–14, it’s the second leading cause. It’s a tough reality, but one we can help change with the right skills and awareness.
That’s why we’re inviting you and your family to join us for a free Water Safety and Swim Assessment Event.
Saturday, May 24
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Select YMCA locations
This event is completely free and open to the public.
During your visit, your child will spend time in the water with one of our certified swim instructors for a swim assessment. We will evaluate their current skill level, guide them through a short water safety lesson focused on real-life situations, and share personalized recommendations with you afterward so you know exactly where they stand and what comes next.
Parents will also receive practical water safety education, along with tools you can take home, including a family pledge card and a Water Watcher tag to help keep your child safer around water.
What to expect:
• Swim assessment with a certified instructor
• A brief, hands-on water safety lesson focused on self-rescue
• Water safety education for parents
• A family pledge card and Water Watcher tag to take home
• Clear feedback and recommended next steps for your child
Whether your child is brand new to the water or already comfortable swimming, this is a great opportunity to build confidence and learn skills that can make a real difference.
Spots are limited, so be sure to register in advance. Find your preferred YMCA below, click the “Register Here” link, complete the form, and select a time that works best for your family.
Help your child feel more confident and, more importantly, stay safer in and around the water this summer.
